Job Description

Job Title: Staff Dentist

Department: Dental Services

Reports To: Dental Services Director

FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary: Provides comprehensive dental care focusing on prevention, treatment, and promotion of dental health across all ages.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with other departments to coordinate dental, medical, nutritional, and social services.
  2. Stay informed on the latest dental practices and techniques.
  3. Integrate dental health services into primary care as outlined in the Dental Health Care Plan.
  4. Develop and implement the Dental Health Plan.
  5. Maintain an effective recall system and manage patient appointment scheduling.
  6. Keep accurate, confidential patient records.
  7. Diagnose and treat dental diseases, injuries, and malformations.
  8. Perform procedures such as cavity repairs, extractions, root canals, and impressions.
  9. Provide patient education on dental health practices.
  10. Maintain dental supplies and promote public water fluoridation.
  11. Participate in dental health education and screenings.
  12. Contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
  13. Ensure safe and ethical practice standards.
  14. Engage with professional dental organizations and attend staff training.
  15. Prepare technical reports and educate patients and community members.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise dental staff according to organizational policies, including training, performance appraisal, and conflict resolution.

Qualifications
  • DDS or DMD from an accredited dental school.
  • Licensed to practice dentistry in Mississippi.
  • Preferred: Six months clinical experience.
  • Strong communication and reasoning skills.
Physical Demands & Work Environment

Requires standing, handling, reaching, and occasional lifting. Visual acuity and the ability to work in various environmental conditions are necessary.

Work may involve exposure to humid conditions, chemicals, and noise, with moderate noise levels typical.
