Job summary

Faire Wholesale Inc. is seeking a Staff Engineer to own data plumbing and reliability for our analytics platform.

You will design and build the next version of data movement from production databases (CockroachDB, MySQL) through Kafka to Iceberg tables on S3, Spark and Snowflake, and mentor engineers across teams. You’ll set technical direction, run Airflow and Fivetran, implement data contracts and SLAs, and ensure data quality and reliability with on‑call readiness while guiding cross‑team

Qualifications

• Youve built and run data infrastructure that teams rely on at meaningful scale and set direction, not just work on it.
• Deep experience with change data capture and streaming ingestion from operational databases through Kafka.
• Hands‑on with lakehouse architectures on an open table format (Iceberg on S3) and partitioning/compaction.
• Strong Spark skills and experience running Databricks and Snowflake against shared storage.
• Experience with data quality and observability, including data contracts and SLAs (Anomalo/Monte Carlo).
• Experience operating Airflow at scale and working with managed ingestion like Fivetran.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for how data moves from production systems into analytical stores and own the roadmap for the next years.
• Build the CDC and streaming ingestion layer (CockroachDB changefeeds, MySQL binlogs to Kafka, then Iceberg on S3).
• Implement data contracts and quality checks across the platform.
• Put ownership and SLAs on datasets and wire quality checks using tools like Anomalo and Monte Carlo.
• Run Airflow and Fivetran effectively and decide what to buy vs build.
• Own platform reliability: SLOs, on‑call, incident reviews, and cross‑team migrations.
