Job summary

Altruist is hiring an AI-native Staff Back End Engineer who will shape the data and AI platforms for wealth professionals. You will stay hands-on building scalable systems, lead major initiatives across teams, and own outcomes from design to production, balancing performance, security, and cost.

The role emphasizes data quality, observability, and cross-team collaboration to deliver impact for financial advisors.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with complex platforms
• Proficiency in Python or Java and strong SQL
• Experience with data pipelines and data platforms at scale
• Knowledge of Spark or similar batch processing frameworks
• Cloud infra design/operation, especially AWS, with Kubernetes
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and practical AI applications
• Ability to lead architectural direction and mentor engineers
• Strong business judgment and ownership of production systems

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for scalable data pipelines and data serving platforms.
• Design and build high-performance systems for financial data lifecycle management.
• Create shared AI data access frameworks and data platforms.
• Partner with product/engineering to deliver measurable AI-driven improvements.
• Lead multi-team initiatives from design to production rollout.
• Establish data quality, observability, and security standards.
• Improve query performance and platform reliability; diagnose root causes.
• Mentor engineers and raise engineering standards.
