Job summary

ClickUp is hiring a Staff Data Engineer to own the architecture and technical vision of our data platform. You will set the bar for the team, align on data infrastructure strategy, and tackle the hardest engineering problems across AWS serverless, Snowflake, dbt, and Terraform.

This role focuses on scalability, reliability, cost control, and developer experience at the platform level. You will mentor engineers, shape data engineering standards, and influence company-wide architectural decisions.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in data engineering or backend/infrastructure engineering, incl. senior/staff level responsibilities.
• Proven ownership of architecture for data platforms or large-scale distributed systems.
• Deep AWS expertise (Lambda, Fargate, Step Functions, S3, Kinesis, DynamoDB, Aurora) and IaC (Terraform/CDK).
• Strong SQL and Snowflake knowledge with performance tuning and cost optimization.
• Experience with dbt and modern ELT/ETL patterns at scale.
• Advanced Python with reusable libraries and tooling.
• Hands-on orchestration (Airflow/Dagster/Prefect) in production.
• Experience building data infra for AI/ML and streaming/event-driven architectures.
• CI/CD, Git workflows, Docker, deployment automation.
• Strong communication; ability to influence and document RFCs.
• Mentoring engineers and fostering growth.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical architecture of ClickUp's data platform balancing scalability, cost, reliability, and velocity.
• Define and drive the technical roadmap for data infrastructure with leadership.
• Design systems at scale with reusable frameworks and patterns used by engineers.
• Lead cross-team initiatives spanning data engineering, analytics, data science, and analytics.
• Drive cloud cost optimization across compute and storage.
• Build and evolve data pipelines using AWS serverless, Snowflake, and dbt.
• Establish and champion engineering standards: observability, testing, CI/CD, reviews.
• Design and maintain infra for AI/ML workloads including LLM frameworks and feature stores.
• Mentor senior engineers and raise overall engineering quality.
• Influence org-wide technical decisions and participate in architecture discussions.
