Job summary

WEX is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to own the technical direction of its data acquisition platform. You will lead architecture decisions, build reusable ingestion services, and guide engineers across teams, balancing hands-on work with architectural leadership across batch, CDC, and streaming ingestion.

You will ensure data quality, security, and cost awareness while shaping the data platform that powers analytics, automation, and product intelligence for multiple business domains.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree in CS/engineering or related field
• 5+ years delivering production distributed systems or data platforms
• Strong programming in Python, Java, or Scala
• Experience building and operating data ingestion pipelines

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain high-performance data acquisition pipelines with various systems
• Lead modular ingestion platform design with reusable connectors
• Implement schema validation, reconciliation, and audit logging
• Support retries, backfills, and schema evolution for reliable data
• Design batch, CDC, and streaming ingestion patterns for freshness and throughput
• Evaluate performance, source impact, and cost of ingestion technologies
• Ensure traceability, data lineage, and security with governance
• Lead design/code reviews and mentor engineers in reusable platform design
• Establish automated testing and CI/CD for ingestion code and infra
• Collaborate with production support for escalations and root-cause analysis
