Job summary

WEX, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to own the data acquisition platform within the Data as a Service initiative. You will lead architecture decisions, build high‑performance ingestion services, and guide engineers across teams while remaining hands‑on.

You will shape batch, CDC, and streaming pipelines, enforce data quality, security, and cost controls, and partner with production support and governance to ensure reliable data delivery across domains.

Qualifications

• B.Sc. in Computer Science or related field; MS a plus
• 8+ years of software engineering in distributed systems or data platforms
• Strong programming in Python, Java, Scala, or similar
• Experience with data integration and ingestion pipelines ensuring reliable downstream delivery
• Solid fundamentals: version control, modular design, testing, performance tuning
• Experience designing production integrations with schema evolution, failure recovery, observability, and secure access
• Ability to lead architecture decisions and mentor engineers
• Experience with AI-assisted engineering tools and validating outputs

Responsibilities

• Build high-performance data acquisition pipelines across diverse systems
• Lead design of a modular ingestion platform with reusable connectors
• Implement schema validation, reconciliation, and audit logging
• Support safe retries, backfills, and schema evolution
• Design batch, CDC, and streaming ingestion patterns meeting freshness and throughput targets
• Ensure traceability, lineage, and security through governance integration
• Lead design reviews, maintain architecture decisions, and mentor engineers
• Establish automated testing and CI/CD for ingestion code and infrastructure
