Job summary

Render is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to lead the data engineering team and set the technical direction for analytics, data science, and AI workflows. You will build and operate pipelines, services, and infrastructure that keep data accurate, timely, and trusted across the modern data stack.

In this hands-on IC role, you will mentor engineers, shape architecture, and drive platform standards to enable scalable, reliable data capabilities for product and business stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in Analytics Engineering or Data Engineering leading architecture and complex data systems.
• Deep expertise in modern cloud data warehouses (BigQuery, Databricks, Snowflake) including data modeling, performance, and access control.
• Strong Python and SQL skills with hands-on experience in building reliable ingestion and ELT pipelines and maintainable data models.
• Experience operating orchestration platforms such as Prefect, Airflow, or Dagster with deployments, upgrades, and reliability responsibilities.
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure and infrastructure as code (Terraform) to build predictable systems.
• Experience building cloud applications, APIs, and event-driven workflows.
• Strong production engineering practices: testing, logging, monitoring, CI/CD, and documentation.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration; mentoring and leading engineers.

Responsibilities

• Own our Data Platform Engineering architecture, set technical direction, and shape the platform roadmap.
• Build and operate trusted data pipelines delivering accurate, timely data with testing, logging, and observability.
• Evolve orchestration platform responsibilities including workflow execution and worker infrastructure.
• Own warehouse reliability and performance; optimize BigQuery environments and governance.
• Build cloud services and infrastructure with APIs, ingestion, and reusable modules.
• Establish engineering standards across the Data Platform, reducing tech debt and guiding tool choices.
• Partner across teams to clarify requirements, validate outputs, and communicate risks and timelines.
• Support data science, analytics, and AI workflows by preparing model-ready datasets and features.
• Grow the team’s capabilities through mentoring, code reviews, and design feedback.
