Job summary

Render is hiring a Senior/Staff Data Engineer in San Francisco to own and guide the data platform, pipelines, and analytics infra. You’ll shape architecture across data engineering and analytics teams, mentor engineers, and drive scalable data systems.

This role collaborates with analytics, science, and IT to enable data-driven decisions and AI workflows. You’ll work across the modern data stack, improve warehouse performance, and contribute to building cloud services with IaC.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in Analytics Engineering or Data Engineering with architecture scope.
• Deep experience with cloud data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks).
• Strong Python and SQL; builds reliable ingestion and ELT pipelines.
• Experience with orchestration tools (Prefect, Airflow, Dagster).
• Infrastructure as code using Terraform or equivalent tools.
• Experience building APIs, ingestion services, and event-driven workflows.
• Production engineering practices: testing, logging, CI/CD, observability.
• Mentoring engineers and cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to communicate tradeoffs and lead through influence.

Responsibilities

• Own the Data Platform Engineering architecture and roadmap.
• Build and operate trusted data pipelines and ingestion services.
• Evolve the orchestration platform and ensure reliability.
• Improve BigQuery performance, cost, and governance.
• Develop cloud services and infrastructure with reusable modules.
• Raise engineering standards across the Data Platform.
• Partner with analytics, engineering, IT, and business teams.
• Support AI/ML workflows and model-ready datasets.
• Mentor data engineers and grow the team's capabilities.
