Job summary

Randolph-Macon College invites applications for a 9-Month Staff Counselor to join the College's Counseling Services. The Staff Counselor will provide individual mental health counseling to college students presenting with a variety of personal, developmental, and psychological concerns.

This position also provides crisis intervention and emergency coverage, consultation to faculty, staff, parents, and students, and psychological assessment, as appropriate.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in counseling or clinical psychology, social work, or a closely related field.
• Virginia licensure (LPC, LCSW, LP) or eligibility for Virginia licensure.
• Excellent counseling skills, ability to work with the traditional college population and developmental issues of this age group.
• Ability to create and present psychoeducational programs and provide consultation to students, faculty, and staff.
• Well-developed oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with colleagues, students, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual mental health counseling for students and maintain confidential clinical records.
• Conduct clinical assessments, provide referrals, and coordinate care with campus and community resources as needed.
• Provide crisis intervention, emergency response, and rotating on-call coverage, as assigned.
• Provide consultation to faculty, staff, parents, students, and other members of the College community regarding student mental health and well-being.
• Develop and facilitate psychoeducational programs, workshops, and presentations for students and student groups, as well as faculty and staff.
• Design and implement outreach and educational initiatives that promote psychological well-being, reduce stigma, and encourage students to seek appropriate support and resources.
• Provide training and education for Resident Assistants, Orientation Captains, faculty, staff, and other campus groups, as assigned.
• Collaborate with the Wellness Advisor program, Well-Being Work Group, and campus partners to develop and promote integrated wellness initiatives.
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with campus departments, student organizations, and community mental health resources to support student well-being and expand outreach efforts.
• Assist with programs and initiatives related to the College’s Edge Program.
• Participate in program assessment and evaluation to support continuous improvement of outreach, education, and wellness initiatives.
• Participate in Counseling Services meetings, professional development, and other departmental activities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Counseling Services.

Salary Range: $50,000.00 To $60,000.00 Annually

Randolph-Macon College invites applications for a 9-Month Staff Counselor to join the College's Counseling Services. Reporting to the Director of Counseling Services, the Staff Counselor will primarily provide individual mental health counseling to college students presenting with a variety of personal, developmental, and psychological concerns. This position also provides crisis intervention and emergency coverage, consultation to faculty, staff, parents, and students, and psychological assessment, as appropriate.

The Staff Counselor will provide training for Resident Assistants and Orientation Captains, as well as for faculty and staff when assigned. In addition, this position will assist the Director of Counseling Services with wellness promotion messaging, in collaboration with the Peer Wellness Advisor program initiative.

The Staff Counselor will work collaboratively with colleagues across campus to promote student well-being and connect students with appropriate resources and support. The normal employment period for this position runs from September 1 through May 31.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Includes, but is not limited to, the following:

• Ability to create and present psychoeducational programs and provide consultation to students, faculty, and staff.
• Well-developed oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with colleagues, students, faculty, and staff.

Preferred Qualifications

• Licensed clinicians are preferred. Pre-licensed and licensure-eligible clinicians are encouraged to apply and will receive complimentary clinical supervision and consultation toward licensure.
• A background in college counseling services and Student Affairs, with an appreciation for the liberal arts, is preferred.
• Strong assessment skills are a plus.
