Job summary

Gusto is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for Cloud Infrastructure in a hybrid setup across Denver, San Francisco, and New York. You will shape architecture, IaC patterns, and operational standards, with autonomy to evolve production AWS multi-account architecture and tooling.

You’ll partner with teams to improve reliability, disaster recovery, and security, while driving automation and AI-assisted development in a fast-growing SaaS environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years hands-on infrastructure, platform, or SRE experience.
• Production AWS expertise across compute, networking, identity, and security.
• Deep knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/OpenTofu preferred).
• Experience with multi-account AWS governance and identity via IAM Identity Center or SSO.
• Hands-on with a managed IaC orchestration platform (Spacelift, Terraform Cloud).
• Experience operating SaaS production infra with observability and incident response.
• Track record delivering multi-quarter infrastructure initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain AWS infrastructure with Terraform/OpenTofu.
• Improve Spacelift workflows used across engineering teams.
• Migrate production services into modern AWS multi-account architecture.
• Enhance disaster recovery and compliance readiness.
• Refactor infrastructure code into modular, reusable components.
• Support engineering teams with cloud infra needs and vendor integrations.
• Leverage AI-assisted tools to accelerate development while upholding security.
• Participate in on-call rotation for internal engineering support.
