Position Summary Information

Founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1948, Stonehill is a private Catholic college located just 22 miles from downtown Boston on a beautiful 384-acre campus in Easton, Massachusetts. With a student-to-faculty ratio of 13:1, the College engages its 2,500+ students in 80+ rigorous academic programs in the liberal arts, sciences, and pre-professional fields.

Counseling Services (CS) is committed to the development of the whole person: intellectually, emotionally, socially, spiritually, and physically. CS strives to provide compassionate, person-centered care for all who seek support. The Staff Clinician is responsible for providing a high level of direct clinical mental health services to students and consultation to the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provide evidence-based, culturally responsive clinical services for Stonehill College’s student population, which includes intake assessment, individual counseling, crisis intervention, and BASICS.
  2. Facilitate referrals to other student services and area mental health services, or other case management needs that may arise, providing support.
  3. Serve as a leader in fostering a campus culture in which differences are embraced and celebrated; work to advance the college’s mission of honoring the inherent dignity of each person.
  4. Conduct mandated assessments as needed for students referred by Student Affairs, Community Standards, and/or Residence Life.
  5. Maintain appropriate clinical records/documentation in the electronic medical records system (EMR) utilized by Counseling Services.
  6. Participate in clinical after-hours on-call rotation as a back-up consultant to a 24/7 Line service provider.
  7. Provide psychoeducational group work in a small group format as needed.
  8. In collaboration with Counseling Services colleagues, offer inclusive workshops, presentations, and social media outreach content on counseling/mental health topics to students, faculty, staff, and the professional community.
  9. Offer consultation to students, faculty, and staff on pertinent mental health topics or concerns.
  10. Adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and professional codes of ethics and maintain licensure/CEU requirements as required by discipline.
  11. Adhere to guidelines in Counseling Services’ Staff Manual and general policies/procedures for employees of Stonehill College.
  12. Seek collegial input as needed for clinical case consultations.
  13. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students/clients, parents/guardians, faculty, and staff.
Institutional Mission

  2. Serve on college committees as needed.
  3. Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  1. May provide clinical supervision to Counseling Services’ graduate interns as needed.
Education and/or Experience

Master’s degree or higher in counseling, psychology, or social work required. Massachusetts independent licensure as a mental health provider, or license-eligible, is required. Licensed Psychologist or LICSW preferred, but LMHC considered with relatable experience. Verification of license or license eligibility is required. A minimum of three years of counseling experience with a young-adult population is required. Prior experience in a college or university setting is preferred. Demonstrated commitment to working with students from a diverse array of backgrounds and life experiences required. The ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse and vibrant academic community is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience with providing personal counseling through individual and group work; knowledge of psychological and vocational testing; demonstrated skills in crisis intervention, highly preferred.
  2. Knowledge of assessment instruments for clinical and developmental needs.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of the College’s Catholic mission and identity and how Catholic traditions and values enhance the student experience.
  4. Proven commitment to embracing and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the academic, intellectual, and social development of all students.
  5. Ability to effectively work with students from a broad range of backgrounds and life experiences, and a commitment to diversity and team building.
  6. Ability to use a high degree of judgment, tact, and confidentiality.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use their hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Licenses/Certifications

Massachusetts independent licensure as a mental health provider, or license-eligible, is required. Licensed Psychologist or LICSW preferred, but LMHC considered with relatable experience. Verification of license or license eligibility is required.
