Job summary

Topstep LLC is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to build a production-grade charting engine for the TopstepX trading platform. You will own the core library and framework-agnostic architecture, and craft a responsive React binding for web apps and a future React Native binding.

You will drive performance, data integration, and visual testing standards, mentoring peers while shaping the engineering direction across teams.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of frontend engineering experience
• Experience building/maintaining a production charting library or visualization framework
• Strong knowledge of financial markets terms and data
• Proficiency in TypeScript and React with API design experience
• Experience with Canvas 2D rendering, layering, and performance tuning
• Familiarity with Web Workers and SharedArrayBuffer for data pipelines
• Able to influence architectural direction without direct authority

Responsibilities

• Design and build core charting engine systems (rendering primitives, hit testing, text measurement)
• Own the framework-agnostic core library architecture and public API
• Build and maintain React binding and app bindings for React/React Native
• Drive canvas compositing, layer strategy, and main-thread vs. worker-thread boundaries
• Uphold rendering performance standards (60fps, responsive interactions)
• Develop data integration from real-time data pipelines to the charting engine
• Ensure cross-device performance from desktop to mobile
• Establish visual testing standards (pixel diffs, replay tests)
• Lead RFCs and architectural reviews for the charting library
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and design reviews
• Balance technical debt with feature delivery and long-term health
• Communicate direction and risk clearly to stakeholders
