Job Description
- Performing bridge design as part of multi-disciplinary projects with focus on bridge design, rehabilitation, and load rating projects while mentoring and developing junior staff and providing technical oversight.
- Overseeing multiple concurrent projects and/or tasks including design and bridge inspections for multiple clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, especially Delaware and surrounding states.
- Mentoring staff regarding performance and progress at the project level.
- Interacting with clients regarding technical challenges, with opportunities to perform project management if desired.
- Generating proposals, including scope of work and man-hour estimates. Some travel should be anticipated.
- Developing reports, specifications, and technical documents.
Required Attributes
- Essential Software Tools: AutoCAD, MicroStation, In-Roads, and GeoPak
- Required education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (focus on Structural Engineering)
- Minimum years of work experience: 4-7
- Design all aspects of typical bridge structures and solve challenges in design and rehabilitation projects.
- Plan production via MicroStation, with experience in Open Bridge Modeler strongly preferred.
- Understanding of AASHTO and state DOT design criteria, with prior project experience with DelDOT, MDSHA, VDOT, DCDOT, and/or PennDOT.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Knowledge and experience with structural analysis and design software such as SAP, STAAD, LEAP Bridge, LEAP Concrete, AASHTOWare BrR, BRASS, etc.
- Exhibit leadership qualities to lead project tasks and mentor entry-level engineers.
- Produce high-quality technical writing for reports, specifications, studies, and other documents.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments within a team environment.
Preferred Attributes
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Structural Engineering
- Licenses: PE
- Successful completion of FHWA-NHI-13005 and/or FHWA-NHI-130078 courses
- Experience with proposal development, scope, and man-hour estimates
- Prior Load Rating experience
- Experience with BrIM or BIM work processes and modeling
- Leadership roles in professional societies are encouraged and preferred.
