Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for Boot Software within the BSW Memory Boot & Programming Services team. Lead a senior engineering group across ECU boot design, integration, and verification to enable secure and reliable software delivery.

You will influence architectures, collaborate across hardware, software, and cybersecurity, and leverage AI tools to accelerate validation and deployment across programs.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of embedded software development experience in automotive or safety-critical real-time systems.
• Expertise in MCU/SoC startup, Bootloader design, secure boot, and recovery concepts.
• Experience with CAN/LIN/Ethernet, flash programming, memory mapping, and resource optimization.
• Deep-dive debugging with JTAG/trace, debuggers, logic analyzers, and logging.
• Strong systems thinking balancing safety, cybersecurity, diagnostics, performance and cost.
• Comfort using AI tools as part of engineering workflows.

Responsibilities

• Drive evaluation of Boot software and provide technical recommendations.
• Own end-to-end Boot software design and integration strategy for new controller architectures.
• Execute advanced integration work to bring new controllers to operational status, including initial bring-up and startup validation.
• Collaborate with solution and systems teams to evolve Boot requirements for current and future features.
• Develop and maintain flash partitioning, memory maps, and OTA/update concepts with security teams.
• Lead root-cause analysis of complex Boot and startup issues across controllers.
• Provide technical leadership to SWILs and program teams on Boot best practices.
• Define strategies for flash programming and manufacturing programming flows.
