Job summary

General Motors in Michigan is seeking an experienced embedded software engineer to design and lead bootloader and ECU programming for automotive microcontroller systems. You will translate system and security requirements into concrete designs and integration plans, and ensure compatibility with GM infrastructure builds.

The role requires five years of embedded C/C++ experience, knowledge of CAN and Automotive Ethernet, UDS/XCP protocols, and hands-on work with debugging tools and hardware.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electronic, Electrical, Computer Engineering or Computer Science, or related field.
• Five years of experience as a Software Engineer, Product Engineer, or related occupation.
• Five years of embedded C and C++ development for microcontroller-based systems.
• Experience with CAN and Automotive Ethernet automotive communication protocols.
• Experience with UDS and XCP diagnostic/programming protocols.
• Three years of bootloader/ECU programming software, flash erase/write flows, memory layout, update/recovery.
• Experience with Git and Jenkins for CI/CD and embedded software release.
• Experience debugging with hardware debuggers, emulators, and trace tools.

Responsibilities

• Design and lead embedded programming and bootloader software for microcontroller-based automotive ECUs.
• Translate system-level infrastructure and security requirements into detailed designs and integration plans.
• Integrate vendor bootloader and basic software components into GM builds, including flash flows and secure boot.
• Analyze and debug complex programming issues across microcontrollers, security modules, and communication stacks.
