Turo in San Francisco is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Search Platform backend. You will design and build scalable services that power fast, reliable search across our marketplace, collaborating with product, design, and engineering teams to deliver features end-to-end.

The role requires 7+ years shipping production-grade code, hands-on experience with OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, and deep knowledge of AWS, Kubernetes, and distributed systems.

Qualifications

• 7+ years shipping production-grade software.
• Hands-on experience with OpenSearch/Elasticsearch.
• Strong knowledge of AWS, Kubernetes and distributed systems.
• Proficient in Java, Python, Ruby, Go or C.

Responsibilities

• Build scalable, low-latency distributed systems powering the Search Platform.
• Collaborate with product, design and engineering to ship features.
• Produce high-quality, maintainable code with tests and reviews.
• Improve architecture to scale and reliability of services.
• Develop tools to diagnose and fix problems.
