Job summary

Turo is seeking experienced software engineers to join a consumer-product focused team in San Francisco. You will ship code daily, run A/B tests, and influence product from inception to implementation.

You will work with APIs, internal services, and a web app central to redefining mobility and car ownership. The role emphasizes strong backend capabilities, AI-enabled tooling, and collaboration across product and design.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years shipping high-scale code to production.
• Experience with AI-enabled development and tooling.
• Fluent in at least one language – Java, Python, Ruby, Go, or C.
• Strong CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, databases, distributed systems, search.

About the team

We are looking for brilliant software engineers who have a passion for consumer products and want to join an energetic team that is changing the way people think about travel. We ship code daily, A/B test extensively, and have a primary role in creating the product from inception to implementation. There’s much to do, and you’ll be responsible for making some real cool stuff happen.

Our APIs, internal services, and web app are at the core of our stable of software that’s reinventing mobility. Be a member of a small team of talented engineers and designers and play a major role in shaping an exciting app that’s changing how people travel and think about car ownership.

What you will do

• Collaborate extensively with product management, design, and engineers to develop product features that drive our metrics.
• Produce high-quality maintainable code, test it, collaboratively review it and ship it.
• Identify areas to improve and scale our architecture and application design.
• Develop tools and utilities to diagnose and fix problems.
• Ensure proper technical design and documentation.
• Work efficiently in a constantly changing and growing environment where the process is fluid and creative solutions are desired.

Your profile

• Typically a minimum of 5 years experience shipping high-scale code to production.
• Experience with AI-enabled development and tooling.
• Fluent in at least one language – e.g., Java, Python, Ruby, Go, or C.
• Possess strong computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, database concepts, distributed systems, and search.
• Enjoy solving problems and helping others meet their goals.
• Passionate about search, streaming, database or other backend technologies.
• Strong communicator. Explaining complex technical concepts to designers, support, and other engineers is no problem for you.

Bonus if you have

• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field.

For this role, the target base salary range in San Francisco is $156,000 - $195,000 annually. This role is also eligible for equity and benefits. In general, our ranges reflect the market-based target for new hire salaries based on the level and location of the role. Within the range, individual pay is determined by objective factors assessed during the application and interview process, such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Hybrid Work

Turo highly values having employees working in-office to foster a collaborative work environment and company culture. This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule – Turo’s employees will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Turo considers working in the office at least 3 days per week to be an essential function of this hybrid role.
