Reddit's Safety and Moderation organization is hiring a Staff Backend Engineer on Safety. You will drive technical strategy, backend architecture, applied ML integration, and operational execution for one of the largest websites in the world.

Lead a team of engineers, design distributed systems using Go, Python, Rust, or Ruby, and collaborate with Data Science, Product, and Operations to protect millions of daily active users.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building high-concurrency backend systems.
• Deep hands-on experience in Go, Python, Rust, or Ruby.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline.
• Proven track record architecting distributed backend services and mentoring teams.
• Comfort navigating fast-paced, ambiguous technical and product environments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for a remote-first org.

Responsibilities

• Drive the technical design, architecture, and ML-augmented backend detection pipelines.
• Lead full development cycles from ideation to production deployment.
• Partner with Product, Data Science, Operations, and Policy to shape roadmaps.
• Mentor engineers, set standards, and optimize developer workflows.
• Evolve high-throughput services for real-time content with ultra-low latency.
