Reddit is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to help advance safety and moderation across one of the world's largest sites. You will apply ML to improve automated detection and enforcement, partnering with product, data science, and operations to shape roadmaps and architecture.

You will lead a team of engineers, define standards, and drive end-to-end delivery in a fast-paced, remote-friendly environment within the United States.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages (Go, Python, Rust, Ruby).
• BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.

The Safety and Moderation organization builds detection, automation and tools that help keep Reddit safe, healthy, and scalable in accordance with Reddit Rules. In this team on safety, we focus on proactive detection of platform violating content and users so we can take appropriate corrective action.

We’re looking for a Staff Backend Engineer , who has interest in using applied ML to improve our automated detection and applying appropriate enforcement. We are looking for an engineer who thrives in a dynamic environment, working across systems and product surfaces to drive impact. This is a high impact role where you will drive related technical & product strategy, operations, architecture, and execution for one of the largest sites in the world.

Responsibilities

• Work cross-functionally with product, data science, operations and other engineering counterparts to execute on product and business strategy to keep our platform safe.
• Contribute to the full development cycle: ideation, technical design, development, test, experimentation, analysis, and launch. You'll be reviewing code and design docs,and help shape our roadmap.
• Lead a team of thoughtful, fast-moving, and motivated engineers. Set and define standards that improve developer workflows, recommend best practices, and help coach and mentor engineers on the team to further their professional development.
• Innovate on new solutions and continuously learn and improve your technical and non-technical abilities.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages; Go, Python, Rust, Ruby.
• BS degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize tasks and keep projects on schedule.
• Entrepreneurial spirit. You are self-directed, innovative, and biased towards action in fast-paced environments. You love to build new things and thrive in ambiguity and even failure.
• Experience partnering effectively with cross-functional teams in a fully remote environment and the ability to discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences.
