Job summary

Prophetx is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to set technical direction and own the most complex systems across multiple teams. You will shape architecture for the exchange and trading infrastructure, and raise the engineering bar across the organization.

This is a remote role within the USA. You will drive incident response, scalability, and collaboration with product, compliance, and leadership to align on the roadmap and deliver high-impact platforms.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend experience with Go/Java/C/C++ or Python
• Experience designing and operating scalable, low-latency distributed systems
• Deep knowledge of microservices, Kafka, RESTful and WebSocket APIs
• Strong SQL and NoSQL data modeling and performance tuning
• Extensive AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD experience
• Observability and incident management for production systems
• Experience in trading/exchange/fintech is preferred
• Ability to lead cross-team initiatives and explain tradeoffs

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical vision and architecture for critical systems
• Lead cross-team initiatives from design to delivery with stakeholders
• Own reliability, latency, and scalability of core exchange systems
• Make architectural decisions balancing innovation, risk, and regulatory needs
• Break complex problems into workstreams and delegate to engineers
• Collaborate with product/leadership to influence roadmap
• Mentor and share knowledge with peers and junior staff
