Job summary

Verkada is seeking a Staff backend engineer to own and evolve the double-entry accounting ledger for daily revenue recognition. You will design systems for pay-as-you-go metering, licensing packaging for enterprises, and robust reconciliation with auditability and immutable lineage.

You will partner with Finance, Accounting, Revenue, and Product to translate policy (ASC 606, true-ups) into precise, testable system behavior, raise the bar on architectural direction, and mentor other engineers

Qualifications

• 8+ years building backend services with strong correctness, consistency, and durability at scale.
• Depth in financial or transactional systems: ledgers, double-entry accounting, billing, payments, or revenue recognition.
• Comfort working with Finance and Accounting and non-engineering stakeholders.
• Fluency in Python or Go; other languages considered but interviewing in those.
• Experience translating policy into reliable system behavior for finance domains.
• Staff level: set technical direction across teams and shape shared architecture.
• Bonus: SOX or external financial audit readiness.

Responsibilities

• Own the double-entry accounting ledger that reconciles licensing into daily revenue recognition and ensure correctness under concurrency and failures.
• Design and lead systems for upmarket licensing, metering, billing, and enterprise packaging.
• Build reconciliation controls for daily close and audit traceability from dollars to source.
• Partner with Finance, Accounting, Revenue, and Product to implement ASC 606 revenue recognition policies.
• Lead major features end-to-end with design reviews, code reviews, and crisp written docs.
• Drive operational rigor: observability, SLOs, low pager noise, blameless postmortems.
• Shape roadmap for platform as Verkada scales toward long-term bets.
