Job summary

Fanatics Core is seeking a Backend Staff Engineer to lead strategic and hands-on development of highly scalable backend systems. You will drive end-to-end features, champion best practices, and mentor engineers while aligning with product goals and long-term architecture.

Expect on-call rotations and occasional travel to Fanatics offices for collaboration. You will influence across teams, balancing immediate needs with technical excellence, and help deliver a best-in-class Sports platform used

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience building highly scalable, performant backend systems.
• Proficiency in Spring with Kotlin and/or Java is a plus.
• Knowledge of observability practices (logging/monitoring/tracing).
• Expertise in Agile software delivery with cross-functional collaboration.
• Excellent communication, able to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences.
• Team-first mentality and adaptability to a high-growth environment.

Responsibilities

• Drive development, testing, documentation, and deployment of scalable software to production.
• Shape team strategy by understanding product, roadmap, and industry.
• Lead end-to-end execution of complex features from ideation to deployment.
• Define and enforce engineering principles, guidelines, and best practices.
• Collaborate with product, design, and stakeholders on high-impact decisions.
• Lead incident resolution as part of on-call rotation and remove roadblocks.
• Mentor engineers across levels and promote continuous learning.
• Participate in travel for conferences, events, and team activities.
• Guide design discussions and improve code quality and architecture.
• Champion testability, reliability, and operational metrics.
