Job summary

Fanatics Core is seeking a Backend Staff Engineer in New York who leads ambitious backend initiatives across our Fanatics App, driving scalable, reliable services.

You will own end-to-end technical execution, mentor engineers, and partner with product, design, and operations to ship features with excellence. The role includes on-call duties, architecture reviews, and occasional travel to Fanatics offices for conferences and team events.

Qualifications

• 7+ years building scalable backend distributed systems.
• Experience with Spring, Kotlin and/or Java.
• Strong observability, logging, monitoring and tracing practices.
• Agile delivery and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Drive development, testing, documentation, and deployment of scalable software.
• Shape team strategy by understanding product roadmap and influencing direction.
• Lead end-to-end technical execution of complex features and systems from ideation to deployment.
• Define and enforce engineering principles, guidelines, and best practices.
• Lead incident resolution as part of on-call rotation and coordinate cross-team efforts.
• Mentor and coach engineers to elevate code quality and learnings across the team.
• Be open to occasional travel to Fanatics offices for conferences, events, and meetings.
