Job summary

Beacon Biosignals seeks a Staff Software Engineer to join the Datastore team and design and scale backend data infrastructure powering brain data from clinical studies. You will own data models, event pipelines with Kafka, and the GraphQL API that exposes usable data to scientists and partners.

You will lead architectural decisions across the API, pipelines, and services, mentor engineers, draft RFCs, and collaborate with product, science, and platform teams to advance Beacon’s data platform for

Qualifications

7+ years of backend development experience with 3+ years in data platforms and backend infrastructure.
Excellent written and verbal communication, especially remote-friendly environments.
Collaborative mindset across disciplines to deliver scalable data platforms.
Strong proficiency in SQL and PostgreSQL with deep query understanding.
Experience with Kafka-like event pipelines and GraphQL APIs.

Responsibilities

Lead design of complex Datastore systems spanning API, pipelines, and services.
Design and optimize PostgreSQL schemas, performance, and security considerations.
Draft RFCs and guide architectural decisions with data-driven reasoning.
Mentor engineers and improve team practices, tooling, and documentation.
Collaborate with product, scientific, and partner teams to enable new workflows.
