Aurora Innovation Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Core Services team. You will design and implement backend services and a micro-backend in AWS to monitor and manage Aurora's autonomous vehicle fleet.

You will collaborate with cross-functional groups to deliver scalable, safe, and reliable software that enables rapid, responsible deployment of self-driving technology. The role emphasizes system-level ownership, embedded AV experience, and strong communication skills to

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience building backend services.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Experience with REST, gRPC and GraphQL.
• Experience designing large-scale, high-concurrency, safety-critical backend services.
• Experience with embedded autonomous vehicle development, IoT, and real-time device-cloud communication.

Responsibilities

• Design complex systems from the ground up in collaboration with software, hardware and infra teams.
• Partner with Product Managers, Designers and Operations Stakeholders to deliver value quickly and safely.
• Build and maintain a micro-backend architecture in AWS to monitor and manage the fleet.
• Develop fleet management and vehicle communication systems.
• Scale products with high availability and reliability.
• Mentor teammates and promote engineering excellence.
