Job summary

Machinify is hiring for Staff and Senior Backend Engineer roles to drive backend direction on Pay and Audit product teams. You’ll design scalable web applications, guide adoption of new languages and tools, and partner with AI coding agents to ensure high-quality outputs.

You’ll work on complex, high-stakes problems, shaping product direction and customer impact while delivering reliable, scalable systems across the healthcare payments domain.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend experience.
• Experience shipping customer-facing web applications with external users.
• Proficiency in Java or Scala; Rust preferred.
• Experience designing distributed systems that run on cloud services at scale.
• Ability to write a Technical Design Document that stakeholders understand.

Responsibilities

• Deepen understanding of the healthcare claims and payments domain.
• Developer Coach/Multiplier: mentor and elevate the team’s programming maturity.
• Backend lead in cross-team planning and execution.
• Contribute to new product development of complex in-browser applications.
• Balance customer-facing features with technical debt cleanup.
• Architect and implement complex applications applying ML techniques to large data volumes.
• Design systems that are reliable and well-integrated.
• Promote agentic engineering practices within the team.
