Job summary

Machinify is hiring a Staff and Senior Backend Engineer to lead backend systems for Pay and Audit products. You will design scalable services, collaborate with AI agents, and own architectural direction while ensuring reliability in healthcare payment platforms.

You will work with product, ML/DS teams, and engineering to deliver high-impact features at scale in a fully remote US environment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend experience in building scalable web services.
• Experience shipping customer-facing web applications with external users.
• Strong knowledge of Java/Scala; Rust is highly desirable.
• Experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems in cloud environments.
• Ability to write a Technical Design Document understood by staff and product leads.
• Product- and user-driven mindset guiding technical decisions.
• Collaborative across engineering, PM, ML/DS partners and leadership.
• Pragmatic, systems-oriented thinking with root-cause analysis.
• Experience with agentic engineering tools in production.
• Reading and improving large codebases with focus on quality.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for backend development and system architecture.
