Job summary

Grafana Labs, the open observability company, is hiring a Staff-level Backend Engineer to build the first production services for a context layer management system. You will design core backend architecture powering ingestion, context storage, retrieval APIs, and agent-facing integrations.

This is an early-stage role with high autonomy, evolving as the product matures. We value transparent collaboration, curiosity, and ownership, with a remote-first culture and global teams.

Qualifications

• Experience building production-grade software that is used by real users.
• Familiarity with AI technologies and practical implementations in production.
• Comfort with cloud-native architectures and observability tooling.
• Ability to own features end-to-end and drive projects forward.
• Clear communication and collaboration across teams.
• Experience with LLMs or GenAI powered applications is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Build core backend services for context ingestion, indexing, retrieval, APIs, and administration.
• Design a scalable multi-tenant SaaS foundation with robust isolation and governance.
• Implement agent-facing retrieval workflows and integration points for AI agents and internal tools.
• Collaborate with product and infra to balance rapid experimentation with reliability.
• Instrument services with metrics, logs, traces, and dashboards to improve reliability.
• Contribute to architecture, storage, API contracts, and deployment practices for a new product area.
• Communicate effectively in a dynamic, cross-team environment.
• Own the AI solutions to ensure they are scalable and maintain real user value.
