Description

Are you a licensed attorney with four or more years of experience looking for a challenge? Would you like to be an essential part of the criminal justice system in Kentucky’s largest county? Do you want to pass along your skills to the next generation and work to solve problems in your community?

The Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy (DPA) seeks an attorney leader to supervise the Louisville Juvenile, Mental Health, and Defender Services Trial Services Section, serving Jefferson County.

Candidates must provide management and direction to a defender team serving the accused. The Staff Attorney Supervisor will maintain a caseload while ensuring the office team files motions on behalf of clients, participates in plea negotiations, assists clients in seeking treatment, and prepares cases for trial. The DPA trial office leaders also participate in departmental educational initiatives, stay current on legal changes, seek outreach in the local community, and maintain relationships with political and systemic stakeholders.

We look for individuals who have demonstrated a desire to help the most vulnerable in their communities. The ideal candidate exhibits exceptional organizational skills, is self-directed, and is comfortable working with a defense team that includes attorneys, investigators, alternative sentencing workers, and administrative staff. We value those who understand it is a privilege to represent our clients on behalf of the people of Kentucky.

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the trial office and supervise staff.
