Are you a licensed attorney with four or more years of experience looking for a challenge? Would you like to be an essential part of the criminal justice system in Kentucky’s largest county? Do you want to pass along your skills to the next generation and work to solve problems in your community?
The Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy (DPA) seeks an attorney leader to supervise the Louisville Juvenile, Mental Health, and Defender Services Trial Services Section, serving Jefferson County.
Candidates must provide management and direction to a defender team serving the accused. The Staff Attorney Supervisor will maintain a caseload while ensuring the office team files motions on behalf of clients, participates in plea negotiations, assists clients in seeking treatment, and prepares cases for trial. The DPA trial office leaders also participate in departmental educational initiatives, stay current on legal changes, seek outreach in the local community, and maintain relationships with political and systemic stakeholders.

Experience, Training, or Skills: Must have four years of experience as a licensed attorney practicing law.
Substitute Education for Experience: A Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) will substitute for one year of the required experience.
Substitute Experience for Education: None.
Must be admitted to practice law and in good standing in Kentucky or comply with Kentucky Supreme Court Rules (SCR) for limited certification of admission, defender or legal services programs, or practice pending admission. Must maintain required licensure and credentials throughout employment. The employing agency is responsible for verifying this.
Working conditions include both office and courtroom settings. Travel is required. The initial and promotional probationary period is 6 months, unless otherwise specified in KRS.
