Job summary

CAMBA Legal Services – Foreclosure Unit is seeking a Staff Attorney to provide legal counsel and representation to low-income New Yorkers facing foreclosure. The attorney will advocate in negotiations with lenders, prepare and file litigation materials, and help clients explore foreclosure-prevention options.

Ideal candidates hold a JD, are admitted to the NYS Bar, and possess strong litigation, negotiation, and advocacy skills.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of civil litigation and experience in public interest work.
• Strong negotiation and client advocacy skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; professional ethics.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal counsel and representation to clients facing foreclosure proceedings.
• Advocate for clients in negotiations with lenders, mortgage servicers, and courts.
• Interview clients and witnesses and prepare litigation materials and filings.
• Develop legal strategies and testimonies for trials, hearings, and appeals.
• Coordinate with paralegals and other attorneys to manage foreclosure matters.
