Job summary

The Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York (LASNNY) seeks a Foreclosure Prevention Attorney to provide legal assistance to homeowners facing foreclosure from our Albany office. The attorney will advocate, negotiate, and represent clients in foreclosure proceedings, with a focus on preventing loss of housing.

Qualifications

• Must be licensed to practice law in NYS (or eligible for admission).
• Commitment to public interest law and high-quality civil legal services.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work independently.
• Sensitive to needs of the low- and moderate-income households in crisis.
• Experience in foreclosure representation, real estate, or housing law preferred.
• Spanish language ability is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide advice, brief service, negotiation, and full representation in foreclosure matters for homeowners at risk.
• Engage in non-litigation advocacy with mortgage servicers and tax districts.
• Assist clients in applying for funds to prevent foreclosure.
• Conduct outreach at community events and clinics to identify potential clients.
• Maintain case files and grant reporting, and coordinate with partners.
