Lone Star Legal Aid (LSLA) seeks a Staff Attorney - Rural Justice Initiative to serve Belton, Bryan, Beaumont, Conroe, Clute, Longview, Nacogdoches, Paris, Texarkana, Tyler, and Waco offices. LSLA protects civil rights of low-income Texans through advocacy, representation, and education.

The role requires strong legal writing, client service, and ability to handle complex cases, with travel across Texas counties and bilingual skills preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Law School
• Licensed to practice in Texas or qualify for reciprocity
• Prior legal services or public interest experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Gather evidence, conduct civil lawsuits, draft legal documents and advise clients about their rights
• Interview clients and witnesses, and prepare for client legal representation
• Represent clients in court and before quasi-judicial or administrative agencies
• Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for clients and the community
• Engage in outreach, community education, and collaboration with the community
• May supervise and coordinate activities of subordinate staff and volunteers
• Handle a caseload, major litigation, attend evening clinics, and participate in community education
