Job summary

Lone Star Legal Aid seeks a Staff Attorney for its Rural Justice Initiative to serve in Belton, Bryan, Beaumont, Conroe, Clute, Longview, Nacogdoches, Paris, Texarkana, Tyler, and Waco.

The Staff Attorney will gather evidence, sue civilly, draft documents, advise clients, interview witnesses, and participate in outreach and community education. Bilingual Spanish/English skills preferred; Texas bar license or reciprocity required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Law School.
• Licensed to practice in Texas or eligible for reciprocity.
• Prior legal services or public interest experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Gather evidence, conduct civil lawsuits, draft legal documents, and advise clients about their legal rights.
• Interview clients and witnesses, and handle preparation for client legal representation.
• Represent clients in court and before quasi-judicial or administrative agencies of government.
• Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for clients and the community.
• Be involved with outreach, community education, and work with the community to further LSLA's mission.
• May supervise and coordinate activities of subordinate legal, clerical, volunteer, or student workers.
• Handle a caseload, major litigation, attend evening legal clinics, and participate in community education.
• Bilingual (Spanish & English) speaking/writing skills preferred.
