Job summary

The American School for the Deaf (ASD) interprets and communicates across multiple modalities to provide access for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals on campus and beyond. The Staff Interpreter will handle in-person and virtual assignments, upholding confidentiality and ethical standards while collaborating with campus communities.

The role requires RID certification or NAD Level V, CT Registry, and a willingness to work flexible hours; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred and a valid driver's

Qualifications

• Interpreter Certification required: RID CI/CT/CSC/NIC or NAD Level V.
• Must maintain CT Interpreter Registry registration.
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Must be willing to work flexible hours.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Provide communication access for the Deaf Community on campus by using formative linguistic, cultural, and life experiences.
• Provide close-vision and/or tactile interpreting services to Deaf Blind community members.
• Adhere to RID Professional Code of Conduct.
• Interpret a wide variety of assignments including medical, employment/workforce, state, educational, legal, and more.
• Support effective and equitable communication via in-person or virtual platforms.
• Mentor individuals working toward ASL Interpreter Certification.
• May be required to work at our Camp location in Salisbury, Connecticut.
