Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Staff Archaeologist to join our Arizona Cultural Resources team with offices in Phoenix, Tucson, and Flagstaff. This is a regular, full-time, hourly, non-exempt position based in Tucson with hybrid work options.

You will conduct field surveys, assist with laboratory work, and prepare technical reports. Required: a bachelor’s degree in anthropology/archaeology, 1 year field experience, valid driver’s license, ability to travel, and strong communication

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Current valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate 4WD.
• Ability to travel to field sites and perform physically demanding work.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field-based archaeological survey, testing, data recovery, and/or monitoring.
• Identify historic-era and prehistoric artifacts and train crew in identification.
• Perform site forms, laboratory work, and technical report preparation as needed.
• Data QA/QC, GPS data collection, and field data organization.
• Supervise field crews and coordinate with project archaeologists and clients.
• Maintain safety protocols and respond to safety hazards.
