• Current listing, or ability to be listed, on federal and state cultural resource permits in New Mexico (including BLM and NMSLO permits).
• Knowledge of ArcGIS software programs preferred
• Current valid driver's license and the ability to operate a 4wd vehicle on rugged roads.

About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Staff Archaeologist - Crew Chief to join our Cultural Resources team in the New Mexico Four Corners region. In this role, you will support field studies for projects across client types including, but not limited to, renewable energy, transmission, infrastructure, oil and gas.

This is a field opportunity based out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Priority will be given to applicants in New Mexico. Depending on project needs, this position may require up to 100% travel within the state, or to other states depending on field needs to support fieldwork and client projects. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to support project delivery and contribute to high-quality environmental outcomes. This role offers the opportunity to build foundational technical skills, gain hands-on experience, and grow your career in environmental consulting.

Field Supervisory Responsibilities: Depending upon project assignments, this role may serve as the lead for field survey crews, independently directing daily work activities, promoting safe and productive work practices, communicating project and personnel issues to management, and providing performance-related feedback in support of successful project delivery.

Experience and qualifications for success

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology or a closely related field
• One year experience with a wide range of field methodologies, including archaeological survey, testing, excavation, and monitoring required; up to two years preferred.

• Ability to travel to a location, walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, and often at high altitudes, and the ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds is required.

An employee in this Albuquerque, NM-based position can expect an hourly rate of $23.95/hr. - $30.64/hr. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law.
