Job summary

Abbott is seeking a Staff Mobile Engineer, Android in Alameda, CA to lead the Android app design and shared platform components. You will set architecture standards, drive migration from React Native to native, and mentor engineers across teams while delivering scalable, secure mobile solutions.

You will collaborate with backend and product teams, optimize performance, and champion observability, testing, and AI/ML integrations for enhanced user experiences.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering with strong Android development expertise.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, systems engineering, or related technical field.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of complex Android applications and shared mobile platform components.
• Define and drive modern Android architecture standards using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and MVVM/MVI.
• Own large, ambiguous initiatives from concept to production and mentor engineers.
• Lead migration from React Native to fully native Android and bridge RN with native modules.
• Partner with backend teams for efficient mobile APIs and offline-first solutions.
• Lead full development lifecycle including CI/CD, testing, release management, and observability.
• Integrate AI/ML capabilities into Android apps and ensure security best practices.
