Job summary

MavTek is seeking a Staff Software Engineer (Freelance) to co-own the engineering and AI strategy, guiding how teams work and how development workflows are redesigned for AI adoption.

You will set the technical bar for a top-tier platform, balancing performance, security, and scalability while collaborating with engineers and leadership to enable autonomous agents and AI-driven workflows.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional experience building scalable distributed systems.
• Experience planning and developing high-traffic distributed systems, ideally as a staff engineer or technical lead.
• Hands-on AI fluency across an organization (AI adoption, tools, or workflows).
• Experience coaching engineers, influencing teams, and raising the technical bar.
• Familiarity with Next.js, React.js, Node.js and AWS.
• Experience on platform/DX teams building internal libraries to improve developer experience.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical strategy and guardrails to realize the vision.
• Architect and drive decisions for a high-traffic platform.
• Lead AI adoption across the organization and enable autonomous agents.
• Identify blockers and remove them to keep engineering teams moving forward.
• Balance engineering, product, security and compliance considerations in all initiatives.
