Job summary

Gusto, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the AI Developer Tools team to architect an AI-native development lifecycle that accelerates engineering velocity. You will shape internal platforms, enabling autonomous agents, RAG channels, and smart context delivery across the codebase.

You will lead technically, implement robust AI tooling, and collaborate with security and infrastructure teams to scale responsibly while reducing friction for hundreds of builders across the organization.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of systems expertise in large-scale, distributed software environments.
• Proven production AI experience, including AI tooling and deployment.
• Strong focus on developer experience and productivity.

Responsibilities

• Architect AI Core Infrastructure and APIs integrating LLMs into developer workflows.
• Drive technical leadership, eval frameworks, and guardrails for code safety and latency.
• Collaborate with product, infrastructure and security teams to ensure scalable, secure tooling.
