Job summary

Asana in San Francisco is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to steer the AI Teammates Platform, bridging frontier AI and enterprise-grade software. You’ll shape strategy, architecture, and execution, partnering with OpenAI and Anthropic to scale agentic systems for millions of users.

You’ll lead a technical team, mentor engineers, plan roadmaps, and ensure reliability, latency, and cost optimization while delivering self-serve capabilities to product teams in a hybrid, office-centric environment.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience in large codebases, with strong backend, systems, or reliability fundamentals.
• 2+ years leading engineering teams or serving as a technical lead, with a track record of driving technical strategy, timeline planning, and risk mitigation.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical strategy for the AI Teammates execution engine, tool orchestration, and platform APIs within Asana.
• Drive the team to improve itself, maintaining clean architecture and reliable systems while growing engineers' skills.
• Collaborate with cross-functional groups and external model providers (OpenAI, Anthropic) to represent platform capabilities.
• Partner with Product, Design, Data Science, and User Research to understand agentic work patterns and propose robust solutions.
• Architect and own the composable platform foundation enabling self-serve adoption by product teams.
• Oversee high-impact technical initiatives including proactivity, model evals, latency tuning, and cost optimization.
