Job summary

Raft is hiring a Staff Engineer for [R]AIMS, a high-impact AI/ML mission system. You will lead architecture, drive major epics, and work hands-on in production-grade systems. Expect collaboration across platform, product, and delivery teams, with DoD stakeholders and Tier-1 security requirements.

The role requires 6+ years building scalable systems, strong Kubernetes and cloud expertise, and the ability to obtain Security+ within 90 days. U.S.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of hands-on experience building and shipping production software systems across the full stack (frontend, backend, infrastructure, and ML)
• Deep software engineering fundamentals; ability to design and evolve complex systems
• Exceptional technical communication; lead through influence across teams
• Proven experience designing distributed systems, service decomposition and observability
• Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native platform architecture
• Experience building data-intensive or AI-enabled production systems with real users and constraints
• Demonstrated technical leadership over large, cross-functional initiatives
• Strong system design and architecture decision-making abilities
• Some exposure to training, fine-tuning, or deploying ML models in production contexts
• Ability to obtain Security+ within first 90 days; US citizenship and TS/SCI clearance

Responsibilities

• Drive architectural decisions across the [R]AIMS platform evaluating performance, scalability, security, and maintainability
• Lead major technical epics from conception through delivery
• Simplify distributed system architecture as the platform scales
• Optimize platform performance for edge and cloud deployments
• Establish engineering foundations and reusable patterns
• Mentor engineers across levels and review designs
• Collaborate with AI/ML engineers on model integration and deployment
• Engage with customers and DoD stakeholders to present Raft's capabilities
