Job summary

Raft is seeking a Lead Engineer for the [R]AIMS platform to guide architecture, execution, and engineering rigor. You will be hands-on, driving major epics and setting patterns across distributed systems, AI/ML integration, and Kubernetes-native infrastructure.

You will mentor engineers, partner with product and delivery teams, and engage with DoD stakeholders to demonstrate capabilities. This role supports remote work within the United States with travel up to 25%.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of hands-on experience building and shipping production software systems across the full stack (frontend, backend, infrastructure, and ML).
• Deep software engineering fundamentals with ability to design, build, and evolve complex systems at scale.
• Exceptional technical communication skills to lead through influence across teams.

Responsibilities

• Drive architectural decisions across the [R]AIMS platform, balancing performance and security.
• Lead major technical epics from conception through delivery with clear plans.
• Simplify distributed system architecture as the platform scales for reliability.
• Optimize platform performance across edge and cloud deployments.
• Establish engineering foundations and reusable patterns to improve productivity.
• Mentor engineers and elevate technical execution across the platform.
• Collaborate with AI/ML engineers on model integration and deployment.
• Engage with customers and DoD stakeholders to demonstrate Raft's capabilities.
