Job summary

Capital One is building an AI native enterprise platform to empower analysts and engineers to run AI-assisted analysis at scale. The Staff AI Engineer will design, implement, and optimize AI software components, from foundation model training to inference, with guardrails and observability.

The ideal candidate brings 8+ years of AI/ML experience, strong Python/Java/Go/Scala skills, and a proven record in deploying scalable AI solutions on cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or AI with at least 8 years of AI/ML algorithms or technologies experience.
• Master's degree with at least 6 years of AI/ML algorithms or technologies experience.
• At least 8 years of experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, or Java.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products that change how associates work and how customers interact with Capital One.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including foundation model training, LLM inference, similarity search, guardrails, model evaluation, experimentation, governance, and observability.
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, PyTorch, and more.
• Invent and introduce state-of-the-art LLM optimization techniques to improve performance, scalability, cost, latency, and throughput of large-scale production AI systems.
• Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems at Capital One.
