Job summary

Phoenix Technologies, Inc. seeks a Staff AI Data Engineer to design and own the data foundation behind its agentic commerce platform.

You will transform raw commerce events into structured, decision-grade intelligence powering autonomous routing, approval scoring, and checkout optimization. Role focuses on building canonical data models, replayable pipelines, and strong data contracts to support real-time decisions while ensuring observability, correctness, and low latency.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software/data engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding agents in daily development.
• Strong experience building event-driven architectures and distributed data pipelines.
• Deep experience modeling transactional and behavioral datasets.
• Understanding data requirements for agentic/autonomous systems including grounding, feature readiness, decision traceability, and feedback loop design.
• Strong SQL and distributed/cloud-native systems (AWS or GCP).
• Experience with analytics databases (ClickHouse).
• Experience designing systems with replayability, correctness, and observability.
• Comfort with a TypeScript/Node.js backend ecosystem.
• Startup mindset: owning ambiguous, high-impact domains.

Responsibilities

• Architect the event models, pipelines, and data contracts for AI agents to observe, reason, act, and improve in real time.
• Design low-latency data layers and data contracts powering routing, scoring, and checkout optimization.
• Create outcome-tracking and feedback pipelines for experimentation and continuous optimization across merchants while preserving data isolation.
