Job summary

Apex Clean Energy is seeking a Staff Accountant to support accounting activities for its utility-scale renewable energy projects. The role involves maintaining accurate records, preparing journal entries, completing balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.

The position reports to the Accounting Manager and requires thorough analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Experience preparing journal entries and maintaining the general ledger.
• Ability to analyze monthly P&L, budget-to-actuals, and variances.
• Familiarity with US GAAP and financial reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

• Support accounting and financial reporting for renewable energy projects.
• Prepare and post monthly journal entries for revenue, expenses, assets, debt, and intercompany activity.
• Prepare entries affecting balance sheet and income/expense accounts, ensuring proper periodization.
• Maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations for cash, AR, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, AP, accrued liabilities, debt, intercompany, and other accounts.
• Research and resolve reconciling items and unusual balances.
• Analyze monthly P&L, budget-to-actuals, prior period comparisons, and trends.
• Investigate abnormal revenue/expense fluctuations and provide explanations for management.
• Review GL activity for accuracy and compliance with policies and US GAAP.
• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and reporting deadlines.
• Prepare project-level financial statements and internal reporting packages.
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations and monitor cash balances.
• Maintain supporting documentation for journal entries and reports.
• Assist audits with supporting schedules and explanations.
• Support system implementations and process improvements to data integrity.
