Job summary

Daybreak is hiring a Staff Accountant to partner with the Controller on day-to-day accounting, payroll, and monthly close processes. You’ll maintain the general ledger, prepare reconciliations, and support AP/AR, with opportunities to improve processes as the company scales.

You’ll play a hands-on role across journal entries, reporting, audits, and cross-functional collaboration, ensuring accuracy and scalability in a fast-paced startup environment.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Strong understanding of GAAP and core accounting principles
• Experience with payroll, month end close, and balance sheet reconciliations
• Experience with revenue recognition, billing, or payment-related accounting
• Experience with payroll and/or expense management platforms such as Justworks, Ramp, or similar systems is a plus
• Experience working with an ERP or accounting system
• Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills
• Exceptional attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• A proactive, ownership-oriented mindset

Responsibilities

• Own bi-weekly payroll processing and end-to-end payroll administration and multi-state compliance.
• Own the daily revenue and refund postings, and research discrepancies as needed.
• Support the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure transactions are accurately recorded
• Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
• Assist with accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and other balance sheet accounts
• Assist with financial reporting and preparation of internal management reports
• Maintain organized and accurate accounting documentation
• Support annual audits, tax filings, and other external reporting requirements
• Partner with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting questions and ensure accurate financial data
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting
• Assist the Controller with ad hoc financial analysis and accounting projects
• Help build scalable accounting processes and infrastructure as Daybreak grows
