Job summary

New Orleans Restoration Properties (NORP) is seeking a Staff Accountant - Financial Operations to own the day-to-day financial operations under the mentorship of the Fractional CFO. This role offers a defined growth path toward a full-time Controller position, exposure to real estate development finance, LIHTC/HTC compliance, and a mission-driven focus that positively impacts New Orleans communities.

Applicants should have 2+ years of accounting, strong GAAP knowledge, and proficiency in Excel;

Qualifications

• 2+ years of accounting, bookkeeping, or related financial experience.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
• Solid working knowledge of GAAP and general ledger accounting.
• Strong proficiency in Excel and comfort learning accounting/ERP software.
• A genuine interest in using technology and automation to improve accounting processes and efficiency.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines independently.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• A growth mindset and the drive to advance into a Controller-level role over time.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day administrative and financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes under the guidance of the Fractional CFO.
• Assist in preparing financial statements, reports, and schedules for internal and external stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate, audit-ready financial records and supporting documentation, including LIHTC/HTC compliance; identify opportunities to streamline, automate, and modernize accounting workflows using technology and software tools.
• Support budgeting, cash flow tracking, and day-to-day banking administration.
• Help document and strengthen internal controls, and ensure adherence to established financial policies.
• Coordinate with property management, development, and external partners on financial data requests; support audits, tax preparation, and compliance filings as needed.
• Take on progressively greater ownership of the accounting function, with a defined path toward a full-time Controller position.
