Job summary

New Orleans Restoration Properties (NORP) is seeking a Staff Accountant - Financial Operations to manage the daily financial backbone of the organization under the direct mentorship of our Fractional CFO. The role focuses on real estate development finance, compliance, and supporting strategic decisions with accurate records.

• 2+ years of accounting, bookkeeping, or related financial experience.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
• Solid working knowledge of GAAP and general ledger accounting.
• Strong proficiency in Excel and comfort learning accounting/ERP software.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• A growth mindset and the drive to advance into a Controller-level role over time.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day administrative and financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes under the guidance of the Fractional CFO.
• Assist in preparing financial statements, reports, and schedules for internal and external stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate, audit-ready financial records and supporting documentation, including for LIHTC/HTC compliance.
• Identify opportunities to streamline, automate, and modernize accounting workflows using technology and software tools.
• Support budgeting, cash flow tracking, and day-to-day banking administration.
• Help document and strengthen internal controls, and ensure adherence to established financial policies.
• Coordinate with property management, development, and external partners on financial data requests.

We're offering our Staff Accountant - Financial Operations:

• A starting salary of $60,000-$65,000 per year, commensurate with experience

DO YOU MEET THESE QUALIFICATIONS?

• 2+ years of accounting, bookkeeping, or related financial experience
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
• Solid working knowledge of GAAP and general ledger accounting
• Strong proficiency in Excel and comfort learning accounting/ERP software
• A genuine interest in using technology and automation to improve accounting processes and efficiency Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines independently Clear written and verbal communication skills
• A growth mindset and the drive to advance into a Controller-level role over time

The following would be preferred but aren't required:

• Progress toward CPA certification
• Experience or interest in real estate, property management, affordable housing, or nonprofit accounting
• Exposure to LIHTC/HTC compliance or affordable housing finance
• Experience supporting a fractional or outsourced CFO, controller, or accounting firm

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

As our Staff Accountant - Financial Operations, you'll handle the administrative financial backbone of our organization while building the skills and experience needed to eventually step into a Controller role. Working under the direct supervision of our Fractional CFO, you will:

• Own day-to-day administrative and financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance
• Support month-end and year-end close processes under the guidance of the Fractional CFO
• Assist in preparing financial statements, reports, and schedules for internal and external stakeholders
• Maintain accurate, audit-ready financial records and supporting documentation, including for LIHTC/HTC compliance Identify opportunities to streamline, automate, and modernize accounting workflows using technology and software tools
• Support budgeting, cash flow tracking, and day-to-day banking administration
• Help document and strengthen internal controls, and ensure adherence to established financial policies
• Coordinate with property management, development, and external partners on financial data requests Support audits, tax preparation, and compliance filings as needed
• Take on progressively greater ownership of the accounting function, with a defined path toward a full-time Controller position
