Job summary

Kforce in Silver Spring, MD is seeking a Staff Accountant to maintain general ledger accounts, post journal entries, and perform monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations. You will assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, support month-end close, and help with tax-related accounting activities while upholding internal controls and preparing documentation for audits.

This role requires 1–3 years of accounting experience and a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 1-3 years of accounting experience.
• Corporate or public accounting experience preferred.
• Experience with general ledger accounting and account reconciliations.
• Knowledge of month-end and year-end close processes.
• Understanding of financial reporting and accounting principles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Staff Accountant will maintain and update general ledger accounts and ensure transactions are properly classified.
• Prepare and post journal entries.
• Perform monthly bank and balance sheet account reconciliations.
• Reconcile accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other general ledger accounts.
• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes.
• Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
• As a Staff Accountant, you will research and resolve accounting discrepancies.
• Maintain compliance with accounting policies and internal controls.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to requests.
• Assist with local, state, and federal tax-related accounting activities.
• Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.
• Participate in system implementations, upgrades, and other special accounting projects.
