Job summary

Webster Pacific is seeking a Staff Accountant in Portland, ME to bring structure to our bookkeeping for multiple clients. The role supports fractional CFO and AI-driven processes as we scale, with a focus on accuracy and financial controls.

Bring 2+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, especially in outsourced settings. Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Xero, Netsuite, or SAP is preferred, with in-office work 3 days weekly at 30 Exchange Street.

Qualifications

• 2+ years accounting or bookkeeping experience, preferably in fractional/outsourced firms.
• Experience handling inventory and significant fixed assets.
• Proficiency with QB Online, Xero, Netsuite and/or SAP.

Responsibilities

• Own full monthly close for assigned clients: journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, AP/AR aging, and financials.
• Monitor AP inboxes, code and route bills for approval; issue invoices and pursue AR collections.
• Process vendor bill payments and manage AP workflows; collect W9s and remit 1099s.
• Learn and implement AI responsibly into accounting processes.
• Perform bank and credit card reconciliations.
• Maintain and troubleshoot books in QuickBooks Online, Xero, SAP; onboarding, migrations and COA reviews.
• Coordinate with payroll platforms (Gusto/Justworks/iSolved).
• Support CFO/controller team with cash flow models and financial reporting.
• Identify and implement process improvements for better structure and financial controls.
• Communicate with clients on bookkeeping questions and monthly deliverables.
